On 1 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Maputo, hosted a Working Dinner for Thai business representatives participating as exhibitors at the Maputo International Trade Fair (Feira Internacional de Maputo: FACIM 2026).
Participants included representatives from PTTEP, led by Ms. Krisana Juisiri, Senior Manager of the Mozambique Project, as well as executives from Kamol Industry, Eastern Rice, Talaythong Factory, Tylers Industry, and FNB Machinery & Solutions.
The dinner was also attended by Thai businesspeople who are already operating and investing in Mozambique, including Italian-Thai Development, which is involved in the development of the Macuse Deep-Sea Port Project in Zambézia Province; Mr. Prangphet Numnoi, owner of Spicy Thai; and Ms. Jiranan Patton, owner of Pekai’s Thai Pub & Restaurant, both of whom operate Thai restaurants in Maputo. Representatives of the Thai Agritech Consortium (TAC), led by Mr. Shannon Lee Ferry, also joined the discussion.
On this occasion, Thai business representatives exchanged views and shared experiences on trade and investment in Mozambique, including the business environment, ways to address potential challenges, the Mozambican Government’s economic policies, as well as future market trends and opportunities.
Particular attention was given to opportunities expected to arise from the Area 1 LNG Project, in which PTTEP is an investor. Once commercial production begins, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to government revenue and support Mozambique’s broader economic and infrastructure development across various sectors.
The participants also recognised the strong potential of Mozambique’s agricultural sector, where the Thai private sector could play a greater role, particularly through Thailand’s agricultural machinery and technology industries. Thai expertise and technology could contribute to the modernisation of Mozambique’s agricultural sector, enhance production efficiency, increase productivity, and strengthen food security.
These developments could also create further opportunities for Thai investors to explore investment in agro-industry and related businesses in Mozambique, both to serve the domestic market and to use Mozambique as a platform for connecting goods, services, and investment with other markets across Africa, a continent with a combined population of more than 1.5 billion people.
