The Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo is leading the participation of Thai government agencies and private sector companies at FACIM 2026, Mozambique’s most important trade and investment fair, taking place from 31 August to 5 September 2026. Thailand’s participation aims to showcase the country’s strengths and promote Thailand–Mozambique cooperation in sectors with strong potential.

 

H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, welcomed H.E. Mr. Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique, and his delegation during their visit to the Thailand Pavilion. On this occasion, the Ambassador presented the progress of bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, modern agriculture, and development cooperation.

 

Mozambique is currently one of Thailand’s important economic partners in Southern Africa. In 2025, bilateral trade between Thailand and Mozambique exceeded USD 653 million. Thai companies have also made major investments in Mozambique, including in the energy sector through the Mozambique LNG project, as well as in the railway and Macuse Port development project undertaken by Italian-Thai Development (ITD) Mozambique.

 

At the Thailand Pavilion, visitors have the opportunity to learn more about various dimensions of Thailand–Mozambique cooperation, including:

 

1. Energy & Investment

PTTEP is presenting Thailand’s investment in the Mozambique LNG project, in which PTTEP holds an 8.5% participating interest. The project has resumed its activities and is expected to commence LNG production in 2029.

The Royal Thai Embassy attaches great importance to supporting major Thai investments in Mozambique so that they can progress as planned and generate economic and development benefits for both countries.

 

2. Thai Agricultural Machinery & Modern Farming

Thai private sector companies are showcasing agricultural machinery, equipment, and technologies suited to the needs of farmers and cooperatives in Mozambique. The exhibition is also designed to share knowledge on machinery operation, maintenance, productivity enhancement, and modern farming practices.

Products on display include agricultural machinery, rice milling equipment, agricultural processing machinery, water pumps, and technologies suitable for smallholder farmers, together with basic demonstrations of how the equipment operates.

Participating Thai companies presenting their products include Siam Implements, Talaythong Factory, Kamol Industry, TYLERS INDUSTRY, C.L.P INTERTRADE, FNB Machinery & Solutions, S.T.I International, CF2 International, MT Natural Herb, Ratana Agriculture Industry, Muileng, Chonburi Muangthong, New Look, and Yod Infinity.

 

3. Thailand–Mozambique Development Cooperation

The Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) is presenting Thailand’s development cooperation programmes implemented in partnership with Mozambique.

These include cooperation in agriculture and rice production, aquaculture — particularly tilapia farming — seafood processing, and the use of solar dryers under the Thailand–Mozambique Seafood Processing Incubator project, as well as human resource development through TICA Scholarships.

The exhibition also highlights Thailand’s experience in applying the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy to sustainable community-level development.

 

4. Taste of Thailand

The Royal Thai Embassy is promoting Thai cuisine and traditional desserts through cooking demonstrations and food-tasting activities, offering the Mozambican public an opportunity to experience Thai flavours and culture more closely.

Maputo currently has two Thai restaurants, Spicy Thai Maputo and Pekai's Thai Pub & Restaurant, both of which play an important role in promoting Thai cuisine and culture among the Mozambican public.

 

5. Thai Culture and Tourism

The Embassy is also promoting Thailand’s nomination of traditional Thai dress for inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2026.

At the same time, promotional videos featuring Thailand’s tourism destinations are being shown to raise interest among Mozambican travellers and encourage more visitors from Mozambique to travel to Thailand.

 

Thailand’s participation in FACIM 2026 forms part of the Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo’s economic diplomacy efforts under the Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI), which aims to strengthen trade, investment, and broader economic linkages between Thailand and African countries.

This year, five Thai private sector companies received financial support from Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce under the SMEs Pro-active Programme, with additional support from the Thai Trade Centre in Pretoria, to participate in FACIM.

 

The initiative aims to open new markets and create business opportunities for Thai products, agricultural machinery, and technologies in Mozambique, while also supporting knowledge transfer, networking with local businesses and institutions, and the development of partnerships that can lead to concrete trade and investment outcomes over the long term.
