On 24 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Mozambique, hosted a Working Lunch between representatives of the Thailand–Mozambique Trade Association (TMTA) and leading Mozambican business organisations and private sector representatives, including Ms. Teresa Muenda, Executive Director of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA); Mr. Fileu Pave, Executive Director of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (CCM); Mr. Umed Alani, Chief Operating Officer of COGEF Group; as well as members of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and other relevant private sector representatives.

 

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the potential and opportunities for expanding trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and Mozambique. The Thai private sector expressed interest in several areas, including electric vehicles (EVs), particularly electric motorcycles as an initial focus, real estate, agricultural products, and agro-processing industries.

 

The Mozambican private sector expressed its interest in seeing greater participation and investment from Thai businesses in Mozambique, particularly in the agriculture and food-processing sectors, where Mozambique has abundant raw materials and resources, including coconuts and cashew nuts. Opportunities were also highlighted in industries supporting the agricultural sector, such as fertilizer production, which could help add value to agricultural products, create employment, and strengthen domestic value chains.

 

Both sides also discussed Mozambique’s strategic potential as a gateway and logistics hub for Southern Africa. With approximately 2,700 kilometres of coastline along the Indian Ocean, Mozambique has major ports connected to four important transport corridors: Maputo, Beira, Nacala and Macuse Port which is currently under development. These corridors provide access to neighbouring and landlocked countries in the region, including Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini. This strategic location strengthens Mozambique’s potential as a production base, distribution hub, and trade link between Thailand and markets across Southern Africa.

 

The meeting formed part of the Embassy’s efforts to advance the Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI), strengthen networks between the Thai and Mozambican private sectors, and promote more concrete and mutually beneficial trade and investment partnerships.
