On 5 May 2026, Mr. Buncha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs / Ambassador-Designate to Maputo, held discussions with Ms. Kritsana Juisiri, Senior Project Manager for Mozambique of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), at the company’s headquarters in Bangkok. The meeting aimed to exchange views and receive updates on the progress of the Mozambique LNG (Area 1) Project, in which PTTEP holds an 8.5 percent stake together with six international partners led by France’s TotalEnergies.
The Mozambique LNG (Area 1) Project is considered a world-class natural gas development project with a production capacity of over 13 million tonnes per annum and a total project value exceeding USD 20 billion.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo reaffirmed its readiness to support and facilitate the smooth advancement of this major energy cooperation project, which represents one of Thailand’s largest investments in Africa. The project is also in line with the Thailand–Africa Initiative policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Government, which aims to strengthen partnerships and mutual benefits with African countries.
Both sides also discussed cooperation on community development (CSR) initiatives through the Thailand–Mozambique Seafood Processing Incubator Project, implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework with financial support from PTTEP. The project seeks to promote livelihoods, generate income, and strengthen local value chains by enhancing the value-added processing of local products for communities in Cabo Delgado Province in a sustainable manner.
