On 21 November 2025, Mr. Bancha Yuenyongjongcharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, who is currently in the process of being appointed as Ambassador of Thailand to Mozambique, attended a dinner discussion at the invitation of Ms. Pannpilai Baiyoke, Advisor to the Thai–Mozambique Trade Association.
The meeting was also attended by H.E. Mr. Sorajak Puranasamriddhi, former Ambassador of Thailand to Mozambique; Mr. Kittipod Hongsombat, Director of the African Affairs Division; Mr. Sorawud Preededilok, Minister attached to the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA); Mr. Yahya Wongkanya, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo; Dr. Apisit Techanithisawat, President of the Central Region Federation of Thai Industries / Thai Overseas Fisheries Association; and representatives from PTTEP.

Participants exchanged views on strengthening Thailand–Mozambique relations, as well as engagement with countries in Southern and Southeastern Africa, including Angola, Zambia, and Malawi. Discussions emphasized enhancing cooperation across political, economic, trade, and development dimensions, particularly by promoting the role of Thai private sector actors in high-potential sectors such as energy, agro-industry, logistics, and infrastructure.

The meeting also highlighted Mozambique’s strategic role as a “gateway to Southern Africa,” with strong potential to serve as a hub for trade and investment linkages to neighboring countries. Participants discussed leveraging existing frameworks such as South-South Cooperation and the Thailand–Africa Initiative to advance concrete and sustainable cooperation.
Mr. Bancha underscored the importance of integrated collaboration between the Thai public and private sectors in expanding Thailand’s presence in Africa. He also reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to support and facilitate Thai businesses in exploring trade and investment opportunities in Mozambique and the wider region.
