On 28 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to Mozambique, met with Mr. Shannon Lee Ferry, Chairman of the Thai Agritech Consortium (TAC), a group comprising 10 Thai companies specialising in agricultural machinery and agricultural technology. Their products cover a wide range of applications, including machinery for land preparation and cultivation, equipment for smallholder farmers, harvesting and post-harvest machinery, as well as machinery for agricultural processing.
During the meeting, the Ambassador was briefed on TAC’s efforts to promote Thai agricultural technologies in various African countries, a large and growing market with significant demand for agricultural machinery and technology, including Mozambique. The discussion also covered opportunities for Thai companies to further expand their presence in the Mozambican market.
In recent years, TAC, in cooperation with the Thai Trade Center in Pretoria, has regularly brought Thai companies to participate in FACIM. In addition to showcasing agricultural machinery, the Thai companies place particular emphasis on knowledge sharing, machinery demonstrations, maintenance, and after-sales services in order to build confidence among local users and promote the sustainable adoption of Thai agricultural technologies.
Both sides agreed that Thai agricultural machinery has strong potential to further expand in Mozambique and could also use Mozambique as a gateway to neighbouring markets, including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia and Malawi.
TAC also raised challenges related to Mozambique’s import regulations, particularly the limitation concerning the opening of Bills of Lading for imported goods with a value not exceeding USD 10,000 per document. As large agricultural machinery, including large tractors, often exceeds this value, both sides saw merit in further discussions with relevant Mozambican authorities to explore possible measures to facilitate imports and ease such limitations in the future. Such measures could help create a more conducive environment for the expansion of Thai agricultural machinery in the Mozambican market.
