Mozambique LNG Project – Key Facts
Mozambique has approximately 65 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of recoverable natural gas, with five discovery areas, placing the country among the top 15 countries worldwide in recoverable gas resources, according to the information presented in the infographic.
The Mozambique LNG project is located in Cabo Delgado Province, with offshore resources in the Rovuma Basin and the LNG export site at Afungi, approximately 40 km from the offshore area.
The TotalEnergies-led Area 1 Golfinho/Atum development is designed to include:
- 13 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG production from two initial trains
- 18 subsea wells
- Approximately 2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of feed gas
- Marine facilities, including a Marine Offloading Facility (MOF) and LNG export jetty
The participating interests shown in the infographic are TotalEnergies – 26.5%, Mitsui – 20%, ENH – 15%, OVRL – 10%, BREML – 10%, Bharat – 10%, and Thailand’s PTTEP – 8.5%.
The project is also expected to contribute to Mozambique’s development through decades of government revenue, approximately 17,000 jobs at peak activity, and infrastructure development including roads, airport and marine facilities. LNG exports are expected to support energy supply to Asia and Europe.
