On 26 September 2025, H.E. Mr. Soradjak Puranasamriddhi, Ambassador of Thailand to Mozambique, paid a farewell courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique, on the occasion of the completion of his tenure.
The Ambassador conveyed his congratulations to Mozambique on the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Independence this year and highlighted the progress of Thailand–Mozambique relations since the establishment of the Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo in 2016. During his tenure, bilateral cooperation has expanded to encompass political, economic, development, and people-to-people dimensions.
In the political field, in 2025 the two sides convened the first Political Consultations (PC) and agreed to promote the convening of the next Joint Trade Committee (JTC) at the earliest opportunity.
On the economic front, Thailand–Mozambique trade has become more balanced, while Thai companies have begun to invest and form partnerships in Mozambique. Both sides agreed that there remains significant potential to expand cooperation in areas such as industry, agricultural machinery, gemstones, and agricultural products—particularly rice. The Thai side also underscored the importance of Thailand’s continuous participation in the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM) since the opening of the Embassy.
In the field of development, Thailand has provided scholarships and training fellowships, both short- and long-term, to Mozambican representatives, while also implementing various development projects. These include agricultural initiatives, especially rice cultivation through the application of agricultural machinery and sustainable development. Most recently, Thailand is in the process of establishing the Thailand–Mozambique Seafood Processing Innovation Incubator in Vilankulos, Inhambane Province.
With regard to people-to-people relations, this year Mozambican alumni of Thai scholarships and training programs officially launched Thailand-Mozambique Friendship Association (Associação Dos Amigos Moçambique e Tailândia (Moztai), which would help further strengthen the interaction between the peoples of the two countries in the coming years.
President Chapo expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s active role in advancing bilateral relations, which have become increasingly close and cordial during his tenure. The President reaffirmed his commitment to supporting and further elevating the relationship between the two countries, and also accepted the Ambassador’s invitation to visit Thailand should an opportunity arise for him to travel to Asia in the future.
