From 14 to 17 July 2026, Mr. Yahya Wongkanya, First Secretary and Head of Economic Affairs led a delegation comprising representatives of the Mozambique Halal Commission (MHC) and the Mozambican Muslim Association of Entrepreneurs and Business Owners (AMEEM) on a visit to Thailand to explore opportunities in trade, investment and the halal industry.
The delegation held discussions with the Thai Muslim Trade Association, the Thailand–Mozambique Trade Association and Thai entrepreneurs to exchange information on Mozambique’s halal market and opportunities to expand trade in Thai products. Particular attention was given to halal food, poultry and processed food products, beverages, health and beauty products, as well as goods and services catering to Muslim consumers.
The delegation also attended MEGA HALAL Bangkok 2026 and Grand Halal Bangkok 2026, where it engaged with business operators and explored halal products and innovations from Thailand and other countries.
In addition, the delegation visited a CPF factory to study halal food production processes, quality control and food safety standards. It also visited Pranda Jewelry to learn about jewellery manufacturing, skilled workforce development and sustainable business practices.
The visit helped strengthen connections between the Thai and Mozambican business communities and opened new opportunities for Thai products and services to enter the Mozambican market and the wider Southern African region.
The activity was financially supported by the Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and formed part of the Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI).
