On 19 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to Mozambique, accompanied by Mr. Yahya Wongkanya, First Secretary and Head of the Economic and Development Cooperation Section, met with Mr. Feliz Pedro Malate, Director-General of the Institute for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (IPEME) of Mozambique, to exchange views on strengthening cooperation in the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) between Thailand and Mozambique. The discussions focused on vocational skills development, knowledge and technology transfer, and capacity-building for local entrepreneurs.

Both sides discussed ways to build upon Thailand’s ongoing development cooperation projects in Mozambique, particularly the training programme on seafood processing and preservation using solar dryers in Vilankulo, Inhambane Province. The project aims to generate income and improve the livelihoods of local fishing communities. They also explored the possibility of supporting the local production of solar dryers by Mozambican enterprises to promote the sustainable use of local resources and expertise, reduce production costs, and enable fishing households to acquire such equipment at affordable prices independently in the long term.

The Director-General of IPEME expressed his appreciation to Thailand for its continued support and implementation of development cooperation projects in Mozambique. He also highlighted the potential for further exchanges of knowledge, experience, and best practices in various areas, particularly entrepreneurship development and local economic empowerment. Such cooperation would further strengthen the close ties between Thailand and Mozambique while delivering tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

On this occasion, Ambassador Bancha presented the Director-General with Thai cashew nut cookies, made with cashew nuts, one of Mozambique’s key export products, as a token of friendship and the close relations between the two countries.
