On 20 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Mozambique, accompanied by Mr. Yahya Wongkanya, First Secretary and Head of Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation, met with H.E. Mr. António do Rosário Grispos, Deputy Minister of Economy of Mozambique, responsible for Trade, to exchange views on strengthening bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation, particularly in agriculture, rice production and food processing.

Ambassador Bancha highlighted the significant role of Thai private sector investment in Mozambique, including PTTEP's investment in the energy sector, Minor Group's investment in tourism and hospitality, and Italian-Thai Development's involvement in infrastructure development. He also discussed the participation of Thai agricultural machinery companies in the FACIM International Trade Fair, as well as Thailand's development cooperation initiatives in Mozambique, particularly the Thailand–Mozambique Seafood Processing Incubator Project, which aims to promote livelihoods, enhance seafood processing skills and generate income for local communities.

Both sides discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in rice trade and increase domestic rice production in Mozambique through the use of Thai agricultural machinery. The Mozambican side emphasized the importance of boosting domestic agricultural production, while Thailand expressed its readiness to facilitate access to suitable agricultural machinery and food processing technologies for small-scale farmers in Mozambique, contributing to the development of the country's agricultural sector.

The two sides also discussed preparations for the 3rd Meeting of the Thailand–Mozambique Joint Trade Committee (JTC), to be hosted by Thailand's Ministry of Commerce. The meeting will serve as an important mechanism to further strengthen bilateral trade and investment cooperation and promote closer business linkages between the private sectors of both countries, with a view to achieving tangible outcomes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Bancha presented the Deputy Minister with homemade Thai cashew nut cookies, prepared at the Ambassador's Residence using cashew nuts, one of Mozambique's agricultural export products, offering a warm and friendly gesture that reflected the close ties between the two countries.
