On 1 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Mozambique, met with H.E. Mr. Dirick Livune, Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to Mozambique, at the Embassy of Zambia in Maputo.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both Ambassadors to become acquainted and exchange views, particularly as Ambassador Bancha will also be accredited to the Republic of Zambia. The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between Thailand and Zambia in various areas under the Government of Thailand’s Thailand–Africa Initiative.
The discussion took note of the growing presence of Thai businesses in Zambia, including investments in the hotel sector, Thai restaurants, and tin mining activities. Approximately 20 Thai nationals currently reside in Zambia, while people-to-people exchanges and travel between the two countries have also increased in recent years.
Both sides expressed their readiness to work closely together to deepen Thailand–Zambia relations, particularly in development cooperation in the fields of public health and agricultural development. They also discussed opportunities to enhance logistics connectivity and facilitate trade through the Port of Nacala in Nampula Province, Mozambique, linking regional transport routes to Zambia.
On this occasion, Ambassador Bancha presented the Zambian Ambassador with traditional Thai fish-filled crispy pastries, or Pan Sib, as a gesture of friendship and goodwill between Thailand and Zambia.
