1. CASP 2026 to present investment projects worth US$1.2 billion

The 21st Annual Private Sector Conference (CASP 2026) was expected to present and discuss investment projects worth approximately US$1.2 billion. Priority sectors included agribusiness, logistics, tourism and digitalisation.

2. Mozambique maintains Prime Rate at 15.50%

The Prime Rate of Mozambique’s financial system remained unchanged at 15.50% for July. The continued high lending benchmark reflected the challenging financing environment facing businesses and households.

3. Mozambique forecasts economic growth of 9.5% by 2029

The government projected average economic growth of 4.9% from 2027, rising to approximately 9.5% in 2029. The higher growth outlook is mainly linked to the development and production of major liquefied natural gas projects.

4. Netherlands provides €12.5 million for seed development

The Netherlands will finance a five-year seed-development programme in Mozambique with €12.5 million. The programme aims to increase access to high-quality, climate-resilient seeds and improve agricultural productivity and food security.

5. CTA signs agreements on local content and climate financing

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique signed three memorandums with the Mphanda Nkuwa Hydroelectric Project, BIOFUND and EVolution. The agreements aim to promote local content, improve access to climate finance and professionalise business events.

6. Government approves investment programme and Maputo Port expansion

The government approved the Integrated Investment Programme for 2026–2030 and measures to expand the capacity of the Port of Maputo. The ongoing DP World terminal expansion represents an investment of approximately US$164 million and is expected to increase capacity from 225,000 to 530,000 TEUs annually.

7. Zimbabwe begins exporting lithium through the Port of Maputo

Zimbabwe introduced a new railway route for transporting lithium concentrate to the Port of Maputo. The first shipment involved 1,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate from the Gwanda Lithium Mine, strengthening Mozambique’s role as a regional logistics gateway.

8. Central bank maintains MIMO policy rate at 9.25%

The Bank of Mozambique maintained its monetary-policy rate, known as the MIMO rate, at 9.25%. The central bank noted that annual inflation had increased to approximately 7.5% in June, partly reflecting higher fuel and imported-goods prices.
