On 16 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Mozambique, met with H.E. Mr. Keiji Hamada, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mozambique, for an introductory meeting and an exchange of views on the development of Thai and Japanese economic cooperation in Mozambique, as well as development cooperation projects undertaken by both countries in various provinces of Mozambique.

During the meeting, the two Ambassadors exchanged information on development initiatives aimed at promoting livelihoods and improving the quality of life of local communities. These included Thailand’s training project on seafood processing and the use of solar-powered drying technology in Inhambane Province, as well as Japan’s assistance to fishing communities in Cabo Delgado Province through the provision of more than 100 small fishing boats equipped with engines to support local livelihoods and income generation.

Both sides also expressed their readiness to promote future development cooperation between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), with a view to implementing joint projects in Mozambique, particularly in rice cultivation, horticulture, and the transfer of agricultural knowledge and technologies. Such cooperation would contribute to strengthening local economies, enhancing food security, and supporting Mozambique’s sustainable development.
