On 16 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Mozambique, attended a working dinner with Lt. Sorawud Preededilok, Minister at the Royal Thai Embassy in Helsinki, currently assigned to the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), and Mr. Kazuki Otsuka, Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Mozambique.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between TICA and JICA in Mozambique, particularly through the development and expansion of concrete development cooperation projects that could be jointly supported by both sides.
During the discussion, Ambassador Bancha presented the progress of the Thailand–Mozambique Seafood Processing Incubator, currently being implemented by TICA in Vilankulos, Inhambane Province. The project aims to promote seafood processing and value addition within local communities, including through the introduction of solar drying technology for food preservation and product development.
The project also serves as an example of cooperation between Thailand’s public and private sectors in Mozambique, with support from PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP). It aims to improve the livelihoods of fishing families by reducing post-harvest losses, increasing the value of seafood products, and creating additional income opportunities for coastal communities.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo plans to further promote the expansion of the project to other fishing communities in Mozambique, particularly in Cabo Delgado Province, where PTTEP is currently involved in a major energy project. Cabo Delgado could therefore offer further opportunities to build on this initiative through future development cooperation with partner agencies and institutions.
