On 26 June 2025, H.E. Mr. Soradjak Puranasamriddhi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Mozambique, held a meeting with Mr. Antonio Grispos, Secretary of State for Commerce (equivalent to Deputy Minister of Commerce). Also present were Mr. Claire Mateus Zomba, National Director of External Affairs (equivalent to Director-General), and Mr. Yahya Wongkanya, First Secretary.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Thailand and Mozambique. Mr. Grispos informed that the Mozambican government is accelerating the implementation of the Macuse Rail-Port Project, a major infrastructure investment initiative. Once completed, the project is expected to provide housing for over 3,000 people and create more than 10,000 jobs in the area.

Furthermore, Mozambique expressed interest in importing Thai rice and medical gloves under a Government-to-Government (G2G) framework. The Mozambican side also encouraged Thai private sector investment in the country’s agricultural sector, noting the geographic and climatic similarities between Thailand and Mozambique, as well as the significant untapped agricultural potential across vast areas of Mozambique. Both sides agreed to consider convening the 3rd Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting at the earliest opportunity, given the interval since the last session.

In addition, the Royal Thai Embassy is scheduled to participate in the 60th edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM), to be held from 25 – 31 August 2025 in Maputo. It is expected that Thai companies specializing in agricultural machinery will also take part in the event.
