The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs is joining forces with Vogue Thailand and 3 local brands who paved the way for sustainable fashion🌏💫 and are committed to ensuring sustainable future for the environment, from ‘SC Grand’ Thailand’s leading manufacturer of premium quality and environmentally friendly unbleached textile and fiber from recycled material, to ‘Citizen of Nowhere’ who tells the story of Thailand and Thainess through exquisite creations that are full of humor and style and guaranteed by customers around the world, to ‘Renim Project’ another local SME who saw the importance of natural resources and the damage denim production inflicted on the environment and aspired to contribute to a sustainable fashion by using old or leftover denim to create chic designs that are guaranteed by the 2019 LA Fashion Week. This collaboration was dreamed up to create a big push for talented Thai designers and entrepreneurs to make a name for themselves in the international arenas while giving inspiration to the Thai fashion industry as a whole.

‘SC Grand’: A brand committed to making sustainable textile ‘Wat Jirarot Pojanavaraphan’ built-on his family’s textile business by adopting new technologies and innovations to up cycle leftover material ranging from offcuts to old clothing to plastic waste and turn them into high quality recycled yarn for the textile industry. The company also uses natural materials such as pineapple, hemp and other plants to produce unbleached fiber that can save over 2,700 liters of water typically used in the manufacturing process. This is equivalent to 3 years’ worth of drinking water. What’s more, the company also partners with local communities to turn recycled yarn into textile which is used to create other wonderful products from socks to shoes, clothes and furniture. Jirarot also created ‘Circular’, a clothing brand that makes ready to wear clothes from recycled yarn, to show that clothes made from recycled yarn can be used in a daily life and an answer for today’s consumers who are both fashion-savvy and care for the environment.

‘Citizen of Nowhere’: Another Thai brand with a standout style ‘O – Saran Yen Panya, Creative Director of this popular craft brand, dreamed of being a bridge between the local people and the international market in order to create a sustainable source of income for the local communities. Saran took the ordinary and mundane and gave them new funky interpretations that range from a chair made from plastic fruit baskets to a chair cushion made from ordinary mat combined with oriental embroidery. All these creations are on display at the 56THSTUDIO and the Citizen Tea Canteen of Nowhere, a teashop/craft showroom in Talad Noi district – a new up and coming neighborhood for the Bangkokians, waiting for fans of handicrafts and funky arts to pay a visit. It was his quirky style that is a perfect blend between funkiness and raw beauty that made ‘Citizen of Nowhere’ a well-known name in the international circuits.

Last but not least is ‘Renim Project’ an up and coming fashion brand by ‘Yo Songwut Thongtua’, who became an overnight sensation from the ‘Vogue Who’s on Next’ project. His brand focuses on creating products under the concept of sustainability by turning old clothes, old denims and even discarded fertilizer bags into hip street wears that are environmentally friendly. Among these is the eye catching ‘Under Cover’ collection that was inspired by the life and the outfits of construction workers who are behind Bangkok high rises. Songwut’s creation combines contemporary Thai with a sense of fun and answers the quest for sustainable fashion, which landed the brand in the 2019 LA Fashion Week, making ‘Renim Project’ one of the SME brands to make a name for Thailand in the international sustainable fashion scene.
